A second man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in West Molesey.

Robyn Mercer, 50, was found dead in her front garden on Monday at about 8am by a member of the public, according to Surrey Police.

A post-mortem examination found she had died from multiple blows to the head.

The 25-year-old man who lives locally was arrested this morning.

A 52-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday following the discovery of Ms Mercer’s body and remains in police custody.

Emergency services, including the the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance, were called to reports of an assault just before 8am, but were unable to revive Ms Mercer.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said that they attended with three ambulance cars and one ambulance after they were called at 8am.

Police taped off a large part of the green and Abbey Walk, opposite Majestic Wine Warehouse, while forensic officers investigated.

A forensics tent was set up outside the home, and police dogs were called in.
Enquiries and finger-tip searches continued for a third day on Wednesday.

Ms Mercer was a partner at the prestigious, family-owned independent antiques dealer, JH Bourdon-Smith in Masons Yard, London.

She had also organised a charity auction selling more than 70 antiques, collectables and modern luxury items which raised £10,000 for the restoration of the St Mary the Virgin church's roof in East Molesey.

One resident said on the morning Ms Mercer was found: "I just saw the a helicopter land in the field by the Hurst Recreation Grounds."

Another said: “It’s quite scary really. I didn’t notice anything until I went out.”

Alan Watkinson, 75, who lives near the edge of the cordoned off area, said: “My wife took the dog out at 7am this morning but didn’t see anything. It’s a bit bizarre. My wife’s a bit shocked.”

Another resident added: “We don’t get murders round here.”

Facebook user Tracy Goddard said: "Things like this don't happen in Molesey.... or so we all think. Horrible, just horrible. My thoughts go out to the victim's family."
