The season of 2018/2019 has been a highly successful one for Hampton footballers, reaching two national finals in the u18 and u15 age groups.
In particular, the 1XI, who will be participating in an ESFA final for the first time in the school’s history, will be a well-celebrated occasion. After a pulsating encounter with Gordon’s school, which ended 5-4 after an extra time winner, the 1XI will face Repton school in the final which is due to be played on the 2 April at the New Meadow stadium in Shrewsbury. Over half the school will be attending the match in hope of seeing the boys in yellow lift the trophy.
Another significant achievement is the u15B footballers reaching their second consecutive ESFA final. They are hoping to beat Sandbach School in the final, the team they agonisingly lost to penalties in last year’s final. Their route to the final consisted of a hard-fought victory against Glyn School and a comfortable 3-1 win against Brentwood in their semi-final. I asked some of the players a few questions about their opinions on the game and what their expectations were, and the general response was very optimistic and they felt as thought it was “their year”.
Personally I am proud to be part of such a successful school and I wish all the best to the boys participating in the finals.
