As the summer holidays came to a close Streatham’s annual kite day event took place. Drawing in crowds hoping to make the most of the last few days of summer, making the most of the warm weather.
On Sunday 2nd September, Streatham Common held its annual Kite day event, organised by Friends of Streatham Common, a volunteer-run community group and supported by estate agents ‘Douglas & Gordon’. This free event has been run on Streatham Common for 20 years, bringing many residents to the event, and placing it as one of the highlights of Streatham’s event calendar.
Much like previous years, professional kite fliers were present performing kite displays, including UK National Champions, Lex and Irma also known as ‘the Flying Fish’, the Kent kite flyers and the Brighton kite fliers. Additionally, there was live music from The Rapture Riders, along with food, drink, and community stalls. Kites were also available to be purchased so all could take part in this event. Children could also go and enjoy face-painting stalls and a bouncy castle.
This family event appeared to be the biggest one in years with warm weather and the summer holidays drawing in large crowds of families and friends along, with the opportunity to fly a kite on the park and watch professional kite flying performances. Hopefully, this community event will be seen to carry on for years to come.
