From community correspondent Steve Wicks: Guiders from the County of Greater London West, which covers the boroughs of Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Kingston, gathered for their Annual Review last week at their County campsite Heyswood.

The deputy Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Ken Smith joined the Guiders to hear a summary of events that have taken place over the past 12 months from County Commissioner Christine Wicks. Christine talked of the many opportunities girls have and especially the number of special centenary camps and activities which are taking place this year. ‘We had a tremendous Launch party which the girls are still talking about, some Senior Section girls came with me to Buckingham Palace for a YOU London event at which Prince Charles attended. It’s great to see the girls involved so much in the organisation of these activities providing the girls a voice and a girl only space’ said Christine, ‘and it’s all due to the many voluntary Leaders we have in our County to whom I give my thanks’.

There were also talks from two Senior Section members Anna MacPhie and Lizzie Randall.

Anna who has just completed her Queen’s Guide award explained some of the things she did to achieve it which included voluntary work with the RNLI.

Lizzie then gave a presentation of her recent trip with other Guides to Mexico where she helped with a project decorating and refurbishing a school building and met lots of children who have lost their parents to HIV aids.
