Lately a crisis is affecting all of Kingston. Everyday university graduates, college students, and even experienced professionals go door to door looking for jobs. The problem is there aren’t any. Indeed it seems the credit crunch is still controlling our lives even now, after the passing of so much time.

Many people have suffered recently, becoming redundant or being ‘let go’ from their jobs, leaving them no way to earn money in difficult times. Kingston is much the same, there are hardly any vacancies anywhere and many unfortunate businesses have shut down due to the economic strain. Whether it’s a clothing store, a technology store, or a restaurant, everywhere is being affected.

The results of this dire situation are apparent everywhere. Families in particular struggled to pay the rising fuel and food bills. Mortgage deals were withdrawn and luxuries were cut down. Even now when we are officially out of the credit crunch the problems we face are still as strong as ever. Businesses can’t seem to recover and so can’t afford to hire more people, leading to lower quality or quantity in products. This in turn means little to no jobs are available, competent workers have no choice but to scrap by what little they can from their savings being rejected from the systems.

The repercussions aren’t only limited to less extravagant getaways or high tech technology. Many of the unfortunate victims have had to stop health insurance policies, and some are going as far as to sell most of their personal belongings. This truly is a time of desperation for not only Kingston, but all of England.
