The 2010 world cup is everywhere, spreading through English streets like the hot gossip of a celebrity affair. Everywhere you look a vivid white and red flag can be seen, whether it happens to be in shop windows or trailing behind cars. More eccentric still are the patterns painted over people’s bodies, a colourful testament to our country’s patriotism. Every word coming off the tongues of Kingston residents is football, football, football. All pubs are blasting out world cup news non-stop, and it seems that football fever is taking everywhere by storm.

Perhaps this is due to the sheer ‘pester power’ FIFA seems to be employing. Everywhere you turn FIFA has some scheme to include football, leaving no escape for those who hate the sport and creating heaven on earth for those who love it. Emirates has ensured that airports everywhere are kept up to date with the latest news, whilst Sony will produce a full DVD of all South Africa excitement. Essentially many major companies have had a hand in the world cup this year, allowing our priorities to be dramatically rearranged.

Passion for the England team is also vibrant in clothing. When shopping out on the high street it is impossible to not see the swarm of football tops coming towards you. It seems all of England is resplendent in Adidas and Nike. The situation isn’t likely to change anytime soon.

I have just one final note to add in my investigation of the football frenzy. Let’s send the German team home dringend come Sunday.
