How wonderful to have our riversides back in north Kingston and Ham.
The north Kingston side has now been cleared of about 30 illegally moored boats since November, and one sunny day I strolled down to see how it was.
I can tell you, it took my breath away – the beauty of the riverbanks and the peace and tranquility.
I had forgotten what it was really like, and you could even see the river.
To know that, with the new river moorings by-law in place, the Ham stretch will soon also be rescued from the river pollution, the damage, the rusty old bicycles hung from trees, the mess and the rubbish, is wonderful news.
So the whole stretch of the river from Kingston to Richmond will be as it should be, for everyone to enjoy.
I cannot thank enough Zac Goldsmith, with Councillor David Cunningham in north Kingston and the Ham councillors involved, for all their extraordinarily hard work to give us back our river banks.
So encouraging to have something so positive achieved.
