Three hardworking team members at a New Malden care home have been nominated as unsung heroes.

Brook House nursing home opened earlier this year and has already earned the praise of relatives.

Linda Feast, from New Malden, whose sister Betty Burton is a resident, said staff there were “absolutely fantastic”.

Senior carer Margie Cayao, 31, from Sutton, said: “I love my job, I love looking after elderly people. I just enjoy serving them what they need. I think I am serving God as well.

“I very much enjoy their company. If there is free time we can have a chat and watch some movies.

“It is not just me – it is all the other members of staff.

“We have got good teamwork, which makes the work easier.”

Team leader Sukhdeep Kaur, 27, from Hounslow, said she was inspired to go into nursing when she saw the care her grandmother received in hospital.

She completed a diploma and a degree in the area.

She said: “We really try to build a nice relationship in our team and get together.

“I love looking after people and most of them are so sweet. It is a nice feeling looking after somebody, and when they appreciate you. That makes me happy.

“My background is in nursing. I love caring and that is what I wanted to do.”

Manager Kamal Gill said: “The three of them, they are amazing and they are really my key workers.

“Margie is really hard-working and she goes the extra mile in helping and providing care. She is always cheerful.

“When we were opening this home, because of her hard work, Sukhdeep was recommended to transfer to Brook House. She has been a real support to me.

“The residents are really pleased with the way [head of care] Shins provides the care. He has done amazingly well.”
