Bob Peeters took big positives from his side’s second half performance in today’s 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough at The Valley.

The Addicks are still unbeaten although they will probably feel it could have been three points instead of one after a late rally saw Frederic Bulot hit the post with both Lawrie Wilson and George Tucudean going close to grabbing a winner in injury time.

But the head coach was at least pleased to see Charlton grow stronger as the game wore on, reversing an unwanted trend from their previous three fixtures.

Peeters said: “I think the second half especially we’ve been working on that because before we were playing very well in the first half against Watford, Wolves and Rotherham.

“In the second half we were switching off (in those three games).

“We had a good shape in the first half and we pushed on in the second half.

“I think we pushed them all the way to be very, very happy with a draw because if you see the shot from Frederic Bulot comes off the inside of the post, then a clearance of the line in the last minute, a shot from Lawrie Wilson and a few other chances.

“We did everything to win the game today but the only thing we lacked was a goal.”

Middlesbrough were hanging on at the end, mainly due to the fact Albert Adomah picked up a second yellow card on 82 minutes for a late lunge at Rhoys Wiggins.

Peeters was initially furious after referee Gavin Ward had awarded a free-kick in favour of the Boro player, but was more than happy to see the official quickly change his mind.

The SE7 gaffer said: “Apparently it was two yellows, I thought it was a red card straight away.

“I was shouting because I thought it was a foul.

“It is the referee’s decision whether it is a yellow card but first of all he gave the decision against us and that was when I went a bit angry.

“He apologises and says ‘Ok, it is a foul for you’.

“For me if it was a sending off that is the referee’s decision. I was not shouting for a card or whatever, I was just shouting for a foul in our favour.

“He sends him off and I think we pushed a little bit more.

“At the end we play three at the back, we push Bikey up front and he nearly set up a goal.

“I’m very happy with the performance in the second half because that’s what we were working on.”
