Striders of Croydon finished third out of 18 teams in the opening East Surrey Cross Country League match of the season in Lloyd Park, Croydon, on Saturday.
Justin Macenhill ran a well-judged race to finish seventh of 91 finishers, covering the undulating five-mile course in 32 minutes, 10 seconds. Striders B finished 13th.

Alan Dolton was sixth in Saturday morning’s Roundshaw Downs 5km parkrun, winning the over-50 category (21.58), while Colin Cotton was 18th overall and first in the over-60 category (24.31).
Alistair Price was fifth in the Crystal Palace parkrun (20.21) while Damian Macenhill was ninth in the parkrun at Lloyd Park (20.37).
In the Barns Green Half-Marathon on Sunday, Ben Fancourt placed 74th (86.01) with Dan Jewell 95th (87.16) and Paul Stanford 128th (89.29). Striders’ first woman to finish was Hannah Musk who ran 1 hour 52 minutes 02.
