The spring and summer season attractions at Kempton Park were unveiled today as the Sunbury racecourse prepares to welcome tens of thousands of visitors, writes Gordan Boreland.

Amidst a packed programme of 16 fixtures between the start of May and early September on the all-weather racing track, there are five major themed days and nights designed to draw in big crowds.

As always, accompanied children aged under 16 are offered free admission at Kempton Park.

The highlights come thick and fast starting on the May Day Holiday: * Bank Holiday Monday May 4 - afternoon horse racing with free indoor and outdoor entertainment for children, including face painters, balloon modellers, stilt walkers and many other family activities.

* Wednesday July 8 is Best of British Night, with all that is great in patriotic entertainment from the Band of Scots Guards, Scottish pipes and drums, West End actor David O'Dell and a grand firework finale. The racecourse's 'Wednesday Winner' advance admission package is just £15 and includes a racecard, bet and a drink. An extra £3 adds a food court voucher.

* Wednesday August 5 sees the return of the craic to Kempton Park on Irish Night with a night of racing, Irish music and entertainment, including live music from crowd favourites Rollercoaster. 'Wednesday Winner' advance admission package available.

* Monday August 24 brings the school summer holidays to a climax in spectacular style with an afternoon of racing followed by a live concert from High School Musical. Children's entertainments are being laid on too.

* Saturday September 5 is totesport Ladies' Day, and features the running of the September Stakes and the Sirenia Stakes in front of the cameras of Channel 4. It's a day of racing, pampering and glamour for the fairer sex, with a style stable and fashion show. A special fish & fizz admission package for £25 includes a bet, racecard, a glass of Champagne and a seafood platter.

Amy Starkey, the racecourse's managing director, said: "Summer days and nights are when horse racing at Kempton Park is at its best. We have a spectacular series of events and attractions lined up for our visitors this late spring and summer, and there will some special surprises that will entertain everyone along the way."
