Foley ABC have held their annual dinner show in the splendid surroundings of the Gold Cup suite at Sandown Park.

There were 13 excellent bouts; six involving boxers from Foley ABC based in Claygate and, for the first time that anyone could remember, there was a clean sweep of wins for the club.

First up in a junior bout, boxing at 57k, was Charlie Eastwood against D Osbourne from Adur ABC.

Eastwood was very composed in his boxing throughout the three rounds but up against a good opponent in Osbourne - he was made to work hard for his victory.

At the end, the judges returned a unanimous verdict to Eastwood.

Next up saw Tommy Dawson, son of Foley trainer Paul Dawson, against T Abbey, also from Adur ABC with the bout made at 52k.

This was only the youngster's third in the ring for a competitive fight, but his boxing skills belied his lack of experience.

His workrate from the start was formidable, scoring from the start with long straight jabs that jolted back the head of Abbey.

In his previous fight, Dawson had blown up a bit in the second round but that was not the case here as he kept up a relentless pace to return a unanimous points victory and also pick up the award for best junior bout of the night.

George Sheedy was the third Foley boxer of the night to step between the ropes, boxing J Connor from Hove ABC at 54k.

Sheedy was supported by a large group of family and friends, who made for a rousing atmosphere.

Sheedy is an all-action fighter who came out from the start in a determined fashion to take the fight to Connor; both boxers traded furious combinations in the centre of the ring, with neither wanting to give ground.

At the end of three ferocious rounds, Sheedy took a majority decision from the judges to deservedly win the fight.

Tommy Molloy from Foley in his maiden bout came out like a train against D Cummings from Adur ABC in a fight made at 55k.

His overexuberance in trying to take out Cummings early led to a strong ticking off from the referee but, once Molloy settled, Cummings was no match for Molloy's quick hand speed with the opposition corner throwing in the towel halfway through the first round.

Jake Woods, Foley's technically gifted young boxer who shows huge promise and should go a long way in his career this season, was up against P Maughan from Berinsford ABC in what was yet another cracking bout made at 60k.

Woods is one of those rare fighters whose natural talent and confidence in the ring make things look easy.

He threw an amazing array of technical punches throughout the fight, including a stunning uppercut in the third round that rocked Maughan to his foundations.

To his credit, Maughan tried to stay with Woods all the way but the Foley fighter's cleaner punches scored continuously and the judges returned a unanimous verdict in favour of Woods.

In a bout made at 66k, Michael Price of Foley boxed with great composure to defeat B Butler from Adur ABC to win a unanimous points victory.

The last Foley Boxer to climb the ropes for the night was senior boxer Steve Ellis, who was up against M Rendal of Berinsford at 62k.

This was a cracking bout in the making and it lived up to all expectations.

Rendal is a classy fighter with quick hand speed and boxing at long range that can pick off opponents very easily, but Ellis took the fight to his man from the first bell and did not take his foot of the gas throughout the fight.

The first round was very close but, in the second and third, the fight turned in to a war, with Ellis hurting Rendal with punches to the body and head.

At the end, there was a standing ovation for both fighters that was thoroughly deserved as this fight was what high class amateur boxing is all about.

Ellis was awarded the fight on a unanimous decision and given the award for best senior boxer of the evening.
