Putney bruiser Joe Joyce is still waiting for the news to sink in that he has been selected for the England boxing squad ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Joyce, who boxes out of Earlsfield ABC, will represent England in the 91+kg category in Glasgow in five weeks time.
His place was virtually assured after he won the ABA National English Final in April, but it was announced officially on Wednesday.
He said: “I am really looking forward to it, although the news has not really sunk in yet.
“I am confident in my own ability and I will be training hard between now and then to make sure I come away from a medal.
“The danger guys from Russia, Ukraine and Cuba will not be there, but I don’t know a huge amount about the guys fighting for India and New Zealand.”
He added: “We’ve got a great squad together, we all work hard for ourselves and for each other, we’re like a band of brothers really.”
