AFC Wimbledon forward Jack Midson described Bristol Rovers’ keeper Steve Mildenhall as "like a magnet"’ in the goalless draw at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday.

The stopper kept Midson out on three occasions but was fortunate in the first half when rushing out and catching the forward on the edge of the area.

Rather than going down under the challenge Midson stayed on his feet, only to find three defenders had got back on the goal line, Mildenhall then managed to scramble back and tip the shot over the bar.

Midson said: “I’m an honest player, and I was outside the box anyway. If I’ve got the chance to get it out of my feet and have the shot then I will.

“But the keeper came flying out, he did catch me.

“I’ve took my first touch out my feet and there was about three players on the line and I’ve tried to go round another one and managed to get my shot away but the keeper got back and just tipped it over the bar.

“He was like a magnet, the keeper today. I got a few on target but fair play to him for tipping them over.”

Midson, making his third start in four games and only missing out on the Mansfield Town defeat having been suspended, is Dons’ joint-second top scorer with four goals for the season but was disappointed not to add to his tally.

“I probably should have had a goal,” he added. “But that comes with regular games which I haven’t really had, so hopefully I can get that and get sharper in front of goal.

“I’m happy with the chances, you know if I’m not getting the chances then there’s something wrong.”

The point apiece means Dons sit six points above the drop zone with five games remaining, starting with the trip to Southend United on Saturday.
