Harlequins winger Sam Smith's crucial tries in back-to-back Premiership wins are proof the academy graduate remains committed to the cause, says director of rugby Conor O'Shea.

The 23-year-old this week rubberstamped a switch to relegation-threatened Worcester Warriors for the start of next season, having taken his Quins career haul to 25 in 69 appearances at the weekend.

Smith scored his side's second in Saturday's 18-14 win over Newcastle Falcons, six days after touching down the winner in an 11-10 Premiership triumph over Wasps.

"It is always hard to see one of your own moving on but that is the world we live in," said O'Shea.

"Sam has been given a great opportunity at Worcester and I know everyone at the club will wish him well at the end of the season.

"In the meantime I know, and we have already seen, that Sam will be doing everything he can to go out on a high with the club he has grown up at."

Smith, a former England age group international, has helped the club claim Premiership and LV=Cup titles since making his senior debut in 2009.

"I'd like to thank everyone at Quins for giving me the opportunities I have had here," he added.

"I have loved every minute of it and will miss everyone – they are a great group of guys that I have been lucky enough to work with day in day out.

"I am looking forward to the new challenges at Worcester and continuing my development as a player.”
