Only three British men made it through the first round of Wimbledon qualifying at the Bank of England sports club in Roehampton on Monday.

In the gentleman's singles, David Rice beat Sebastian Rieschick 6-3 6-2, Jamie Baker won 4-6 6-3 6-4 against 17th seed Matteo Viola and Alex Bogdanovic beat Marek Semjan 7-6 6-3 to advance into the second round.

All three need to win two more qualifying games this week to secure a place in the main draw for Monday.

Rice plays Italian Flavio Cipolla later on today while Bogdanovic faces Evgeny Korolev from Kazakhstan and Baker is up against Russian Igor Kunitsyn.

There was no joy though for the five other British men in action.
Lewis Burton lost 6-4 6-3 to Dustin Brown, Edward Corrie went out 6-4 5-7 7-5 to ninth seed Illya Marchenko, Josh Goodall lost 6-4 7-6 to Samuel Groth, Dan Evans lost to 25th seed Daniel Munoz-De La Nava 6-1 3-6 6-2 and Joshua Ward-Hibbert went out 6-4 6-4 to Alex Kuznetsov.

There was no success in the gentleman's doubles either with all three pairs involving British players bowing out.

Corrie teamed up with Neal Skupski and took the first set off number one seeds Dustin Brown and Rameez Junaid before losing 6-7 6-3 6-3, Burton and Evans lost a tight game 7-6 4-6 11-9 to seventh seeds Steve Johnson and Andreas Siljestrom while Australian-turned-Brit Brydan Klein and his Australian partner Dane Propoggia lost 7-6 6-2 to Andreas Haider-Maurer and Jiri Vesely despite being seeded sixth.

Today, the ladies' qualifiers get underway with Croydon's Anna Smith in action against 16th seed Anna Schmiedlova and New Malden's Mel South facing Shahar Peer.

Other Brits playing are Katy Dunne, Naomi Broady, Emily Webley-Smith, Jade Windley, Lisa Whybourne and Amanda Carreras.
