Staff were joined by the schools’ board of directors on July 5, 2017 to celebrate ACS International Schools’ 50th year anniversary. The celebratory lunch begins a series of year-long events and activities with students, staff, parents, alumni and friends of ACS, which recognise this important milestone for the schools.

Founded in 1967 by Gordon E Speed and Emmanuel J Poularas, to meet the needs of local and global families, they opened the first ACS School in Hampstead, London with one division and 35 students.

Today ACS International Schools educates over 3,700 students, aged two to 18, representing 100 nationalities at its three UK schools in Surrey and Greater London as well as one in Doha, Qatar.

At the celebratory lunch, staff enjoyed a special ‘50’ birthday cake and a commemorative photo outside at their Cobham Campus. Phil Hodkinson, Chairman of the Board at ACS International Schools, commented:

“This is an exciting year for ACS staff and students. Not only do we celebrate our 50th anniversary, but 2017 also heralds the completion of the latest multi-million pound investment projects across our campuses in Cobham, Egham and Hillingdon.”

The ongoing investment programme has included the creation of a state-of-the-art Sports Centre at ACS Egham; the new E J Poularas Performing Arts Centre at ACS Cobham, named after the school’s co-founder; and due for completion this summer, a £15m new international boarding house at ACS Cobham and brand new £10m science floor at ACS Hillingdon which will support an exciting science programme.

Mr Hodkinson added: “ACS International Schools has provided a world-class, international education to students for fifty years. It was one of the first schools in the UK to offer the IB Diploma in 1986. Our latest developments reinforce our commitment to providing a future-focused teaching and learning environment and equipping students with a global outlook and the skills to succeed at university and the world of work. We aim to be here long into the future offering quality education to both the local community and global families relocating to the UK.”
