In just a month’s time Councillor Alan Palmer, Walton-on-Thames Residents Association, will take on the personal challenge of the Annual Prudential Ride 100 event, most of which is based in our county of Surrey!

He will be raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind, a charity he recalls stuck in his mind for milk bottle appeals on Blue Peter!  However, the cause is now much closer to him, as his eldest daughter Laura is a Rehabilitation Officer, assisting blind people in Surrey.

Councillor Palmer says “Laura tells me regularly that making often simple adaptations to the persons living arrangements that can make significant improvements to a person’s confidence and quality of life, having a Guide Dog is key to this for so many people.”

As an outdoor loving person Councillor Palmer juggles his responsibilities at EBC (Elmbridge Borough Council) with running his own Fire Safety & Training Business and role as Chairman of WoTTA (Walton on Thames Trading Alliance) with cycling and running.

“I have wanted to ride this great event for several years as it runs through Walton and also my beloved Surrey Hills adventure ground. The fact I will get to ride through so much of Elmbridge I can demonstrate my support for the borough as well as this great event and very important charity.”
