The first few weeks of South Western Railway operating the line out of Waterloo have brought in thousands of lost property items.
Some of the most commonly left behind are exactly what you might expect: wallets, keys, glasses and phones.
But there have been some more unusual items left to navigate the train network alone, abandoned to their fate.
Here is a list of recent lost property that you might find surprising:
• A barrister’s wig
• An ironing board
• A pirate flag, complete with its pole
• A leather lounge chair
• A pair of false teeth
• A giant inflatable shark
• Giant prize bananas, pandas and doughnuts from Thorpe Park
And here is a list of the most common items (perhaps some of them are yours):
• Umbrellas
• Coats
• Wallets and purses
• Keys
• Railcards
• Glasses
• Phones, laptops and other gadgets
• Shopping bags and luggage
• Drinks bottles
Michael Pugh, customer experience manager at Waterloo station, said: “Our staff from across the network work hard to ensure passengers are reunited with their belongings. However, we would encourage everyone to check they have their belongings before they leave our trains. Keys, phones and wallets are always such a pain to lose but it’s the sentimental items that really cause problems for passengers.”
