An unknown error caused the computer system at St George’s Hospital to crash for several hours yesterday evening.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the technical difficulties, which were reported at around 5pm and resolved by 7.40pm on Monday, June 6.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for St George’s said the Tooting-based hospital had maintained a “full service” during the technical difficulties.

She said: “Yesterday evening, we experienced temporary problems with some of our IT systems at the trust.

“We worked to resolve the problems as quickly as possible, and systems were back up and running as normal within three hours.

“During this time, our Emergency Department was open as usual, and a full service was provided for patients throughout the trust.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and would like to thank both patients and staff for their co-operation.

“We are investigating the causes of the IT problems to prevent a repeat of it occurring in the future.”
