A nursery school teacher has been charged with voyeurism after a secret video camera was found in the school toilets.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man on Thursday (May 24) following the discovery of the recording device in the staff toilets.

They confirmed the camera was in a staff toilet and did not involve any of the 55 children who attend the school.

Following the arrest on Thursday, two nurseries in the borough were closed on Friday to assist police in their investigation but re-opened this week following a search.

Jancett Group of Day Nurseries, which runs six day nurseries in the area, have released a statement.

"On Wednesday, 23rd May 2012, a member of staff discovered a recording device in a staff toilet. The police were immediately contacted by the nursery and requested to attend. Officers duly attended the nursery and removed the device.

"The nursery owners have been informed by police that there are no images of any child that attends or has attended any nursery or child care setting operated by the Jancett Group.

"The management have continued to keep parents, staff and students informed and will continue to consult with parents, staff and students and offer any assistance required."

Child care practitioner James Hoffman, from Purley, appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on May 26 charged with voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children and one count of making an indecent image.

He will appear at Tower Bridge magistrates court later this month.
