Reigate Road in Epsom Downs has reopened after a lorry overturned this morning.

Surrey Comet:

Fire crews from Epsom and Banstead were called to the crash at about 9.30am on Wednesday, March 2.

No-one was hurt.

Surrey Comet:

Gill Walker, 57, said the lorry turned over when it became overbalanced as workers were unloading it.

Mrs Walker, a receptionist at Epsom Audi in Reigate Road, told the Epsom Guardian this morning: “I can see a red lorry that is at an angle of 45 degrees near the traffic lights. It is just leaning against a fence.

“They are doing some building work at a house on the corner and something must have overbalanced when they were getting stuff out of the lorry.

“There were two fire engines but they have both gone.

“The police have put cones down there and there are still people in hi-vis vests, but everything is moving as normal apart from the lorry leaning on the fence.

“It was dealt with very quickly.

“There were no ambulances so I assume no one was hurt.”

The lorry was removed and the road reopened at 4.20pm.

A Banstead fire crew spokesman confirmed no-one was hurt, although damage was done to a street light and scaffolding on a nearby house.

He said: "When we arrived there was a lorry - which was delivering building supplies - overturned on its side.

"There was some damage to a street light.

"There was some damage to scaffolding around a house.

"Why it happened is still under investigation but no-one was hurt, thankfully."

No other cars were involved, Surrey Fire and Rescue confirmed.
