Earlier this year, while in overnight transit from Cape Town to Vancouver, Canada my wife and I took the opportunity to visit family members in Surbiton and Epsom.
We needed to place an early morning telephone call and after driving around looking for a business which was open, we by chance, visited the Ruxley Auto Centre and were able to use their phone.
The proprietor was very accommodating and we were able to contact our relatives. Much later in the day my wife realized that she had mislaid her purse or handbag, including credit cards, cash, passport, ongoing airline ticket etc somewhere during that day.
Needless to say, after a sleepless, overnight 12 hour flight we were not at our best intellectually and having never been in the area before we had great difficulty even remembering the various places we had been that day. We were greatly relieved to finally locate the shop and recover her purse and contents intact. By so doing we were able to reverse what might have been a major inconvenience and costly episode in our trip home the next day.
The coordinates of this business are Ruxley Auto Centre, 421 Kingston Road, Ewell Epsom, Surrey.
The honesty and integrity of the proprietor whose name I have unfortunately cannot recall is yet another example of the elemental honesty of persons who might never make headlines but are part of the warp and weft of the British nation.
My wife and I would be delighted if this letter were published in your newspaper.
