While Epsom and Ewell Council is to be commended for looking in to car parking charges, it appears that the reduction of some car parking fees are at the expense of rises in others.
If the council truly wants to increase the footfall in Epsom town centre they should look at strategies to raise the quality and variety of shops and attract new businesses to the area.
Nationally the trend seems to be an expansion in online shopping, leaving the high street to independent boutiques.
Councils must encourage affordable premises for new businesses and the new owners must be confident shoppers have easy access and competitive parking charges.
