For the second time in a month I find myself writing about the high performance of the Epsom and St Helier Hospital Trust.

In the highly regarded Dr. Foster Hospital Guide just released, our trust was named as one of just 29 hospital trusts (out of 143) 'where the number of patients who die is significantly lower than expected.'

Indeed the Epsom/St Helier trust is 7.95 per cent lower than the expected death rate.

Whilst from time to time I have been the trust's worst critic, it is important that I congratulate all those who work so hard at our hospitals.

The performance of senior management and the response by all those employed by the trust over the past year is nothing short of outstanding, and I would ask all residents and those responsible for the financing of the hospitals to get behind the team in order that it might continue to prosper in the coming year.

Who knows, we might be able to stand alone in the not too distant future.

Once again, well done, thank you and compliments of the season to you all.
