So many of us lead such busy lives that an hour can pass without us barely noticing, but for families who have a seriously ill child time is very precious.

At Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity we provide support to families of children with a life threatening or terminal illness and one extra hour for these families can make a very real difference.

This year we are delighted that acclaimed TV baker, Jo Wheatley, has joined with us to support The Big Hour Cake Sale, our largest annual fundraiser, which takes place between 21-27 October.

Passionate baker and mum of three, Jo, is hoping her involvement in this year’s event will help inspire everyone – bakers and non-bakers alike - to join The Big Hour Cake Sale, host their own fundraising event and raise much needed funds to enable us to continue our work.

Getting involved couldn’t be easier. Simply visit thebighour.org.uk and register to receive your very own fundraising pack. The pack includes posters, invites, bunting, balloons and easy to follow recipes. Once you’ve registered, it’s simply a case of spreading the word to let people know when and where you will be selling your cakes.

We are hoping The Big Hour Cake Sale will raise £50,000 but we need your support. Please remember though it’s not all about big sums: £20 raised helps support a shattered mum who has been up all night with her sick child and £50 means support can be offered to a family coping with the logistical and emotional pressures of attending hospital appointments.

The families we support often say they wouldn’t know what to do without the practical assistance Rainbow Trust provides. On their behalf I am appealing to everyone to get baking and to join this year’s The Big Hour Cake Sale.

Thank you and happy baking!

Heather Wood; Chief Executive, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity
