Referring to previous letters relating to Tina Mountain and councillors, both borough and county, I should like to point out as an Epsom inhabitant for over 40 years, a CAB advisor and ex- College Ward Residents Association (CWRA) chairman, that one of the RA’s main goals is to keep politics out of local government.
To that end, we were supported by our previous MPs, Sir Peter Rawlinson and Sir Archie Hamilton who did not encourage Tory candidates to stand against (mainly Conservative at General Election voting-) RA candidates.
This generally splits the vote and allows the Lib Dems in at local elections, but our excellent MP Chris Grayling positively pushes candidates from his party.
Julie Morris is always railing against the RA. Let it not be forgotten that she was an enthusiastic and hard-working supporter of CWRA and an active member of the committee, until she realised she had a better chance of becoming a councillor if she were to swap sides to the Lib Dems.
The CWRA committee has always invited their local county councillor to our monthly meetings, and Cecilia Gerard and Chris Frost’s county input was always invaluable.
We do not, however, invite opposition borough councillors, but prefer our own.
