I was under the impression that we lived in a democratic country, how wrong I was when a fantastic centre such as EDICS can be closed without any consultation with staff, GPs, or patients.
I feel very sorry for the very caring staff who worked there and also for the patients who will be deprived of a wonderful medical centre which specialised in the treatment of skin cancer amongst many other fantastic services.
It wasn't that long ago that Chris Grayling cut the ribbon to open EDICS to much acclaim and I wonder who in their wisdom, or lack of it, decided to close it regardless of the effect such action would have on the staff and the thousands (yes thousands) of patients who regularly attend the many clinics.
Thousands of pounds has recently been spent on updating EDICS to provide various clinics and consulting rooms. How sad then that these will never be used.
Shame on whoever decided to take this course of action which will have such a devastating effect on staff, as they try to find other jobs, and to patients who will have to go elsewhere to find the wonderful treatment and caring attitude of staff that they received at EDICS.
I wish the staff at EDICS and their many clients the very best and sincerely hope that the closure of such an outstanding facility will not affect the health of the many patients, some of whom were extremely poorly.
