Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating after a cyclist died in Weybridge last night.

The 52-year-old man, from Thames Ditton, fell from his bike at the junction of Weystone Road and Weybridge Road just before 8pm.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading to the victim, from the Thames Ditton area, falling from his bicycle and being in collision with the road.

“The cyclist was taken to St Peter's Hospital where he unfortunately died a short time later.”

The man’s family has been told of his death, the force said.

A spokesman from Surrey County Council confirmed that the authority was not being investigated over the incident.

He said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time and it’s important we wait for the conclusion of an investigation which will explore what happened.”
