An offbeat but much-loved comedian who came up in the same comedy school as Ricky Gervais and Sasha Baron Cohen will perform his latest stand up show at the Rose Theatre, writes Tom Barnes.
Marcus Brigstocke was among a number of talented young comedians who first featured on the 11 O’clock Show in the late 1990s.
He has not quite reached the dizzy heights of success of former colleagues but has nevertheless forged an impressive career, notching up appearances on comedy panel shows including the BBC’s Have I Got News For You.
His intelligent and entertaining new show, The Brig Society, takes aim at the minutiae of Britain life, delivers fresh and original yet hilarious material.
As the show suggests, this politically charged hour is a comic celebration of the Conservative Party’s vote-pandering Big Society initiative, with audience members divided up between citizens and Government minsters – no prizes for guessing who comes out worse in Brigstocke’s dystopian world.
The show is packed with insightful and though provoking material, a real treat of truth and honesty that comes highly recommended. Marcus Brigstocke –
The Brig Society, Rose Theatre, High Street, Kingston, October 21, 7.30pm, £10 to £15. Call 08444 821556 or visit rosetheatre kingston. org
