The world famous BRIT school has celebrated a £5 million expansion which could see it take on more than 300 additional pupils a year.

The school, in South Norwood, held a topping out ceremony for a refurbished building, formerly Selhurst High School for Boys sixth form building, on Friday June 15.

Courses such as Community Arts Practice and Interactive Media for post 16’s and Creative Design & Technology at Key Stage Four will be offered as well as the school taking on up to 1,230, 310 more than its existing registers.

Richard Elliot, director of finance, said: "This is the completion of plan that have been on the table for almost four year. We are very thankful for the help Croydon Council has provided in allowing us to take over and make use of this building."

More than £4m was provided by Partnership for Schools to remodel the site, provide a theatre and dance studio.

The British Record Industry Trust, which sponsors the school, has also donated over £1 m so that the building can be furnished.
