A scout and guide band can buy new instruments after a generous boost by Claygate Parish Council.

The £500 grant to 1st Claygate Scout and Guide Band will help them expand, and comes as they celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Band leader Robin Wilkinson said: “This is really great news and we are very grateful to the parish council. “It will allow us to purchase at least four new instruments, which will go to children who want to learn music. “Our band supports lots of events in and around Claygate and this grant will help to ensure the band can continue to grow and thrive, and support our community.”

To celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary, it is leading the Disney parade at Disneyland Paris on October 29.

Mr Wilkinson said: “The band worked hard to pass a tough audition to be allowed to perform in the Disney parade – and it’s great that all their hard work has paid off.”
