A Surbiton burger van has taken another step in its battle to compete with McDonalds by launching an online delivery service.

Burger Box has seen its sales halved since the multinational company in Victoria Road expanded to 24 hours a day.

But the van outside Surbiton station is promising to deliver its burgers and chips to the door of lazy customers, as part of its bid to eventually become part of its own multimillion pound franchise.

And the owner has promised to post his sales figures on Twitter week-by-week to create suspense as to how he is doing.

Paulo Benfeito, 32, said: “I just thought what is the best way to go forward to compete?

“Our customers can log-in, place an order and we deliver to them seven days a week.

“It is great for students who can’t be bothered to come out but are feeling hungry. We are the solution.

“People will know how I am doing and know how successful or unsuccessful we are.

“Let’s say I only make £22 people will wonder how much we have done the next week.”

The delivery van will be driven by Mr Benfeito between 11am and 11pm and will deliver within a five mile radius.

The burger box has been in Surbiton for 30 years but was taken over in 2008 by Mr Benfeito who lives in Leighton Buzzard but sleeps in his office during the week.

He also runs a coffee kiosk at Hampton Court station, and another at East Molesey Cricket Club, all part of his plan for a multimillion pound franchise empire.

Members of his Facebook group who use the code 1234 will get discounts on delivery.
