Paul Tuckey capped a fine all round display with four goals as Merton Rovers opened their Kingston & District League 5th Division account with a 6-1 win over Westside III at Prince Georges Fields on Saturday.

Westside didn't really get going at all and Rovers took full advantage, Tien Marola strolled past a defender and down the right-hand side of the Westside penalty box to deliver a superb inch perfect cross for Tuckey to power home with his head.

Tuckey then made it 2-0 when he received the ball around 25 yards out, swivelled and fired a rasping drive into the top right hand corner.

Westside then briefly reduced the deficit after a short back pass by Rovers' Captain Veron Antonio was intercepted by their number 10 who calmly placed it into the net.

Rovers then piled on the pressure again and forced a series of corners until a defensive header found Warren Curl who nonchalantly stroked the ball past the advancing defenders and hapless keeper into the bottom right corner from the edge of the area.

Rovers went into their half time team talk on a high and following the start of the second half, again quickly made an impression on their opponents.

Veron Antonio, who marshalled the defence superbly all game, leapt to clear a long ball by Westside to head to Jaime Robins who turned and advanced towards the Westside goal. With the defence backing off, he played Tuckey in for his hat trick.

Rovers' age-defying left back, Tony McLean then intercepted a stray Westside pass, turned his marker then played a delightful 40 yard cross field pass to substitute Robert cameo man' Smith who dazzled two defenders with a piece of skill and then with anger, lashed the ball past the Westside keeper.

Tuckey then scored his forth and final goal of the day when Marola, this time playing on the left of midfield swept over another cross that Robert Smith dummied for Tuckey to stroke home and seal the win.
