A roundabout redesign will be complete before Olympic cyclists race past, after Boris Johnson approved funding.
Kingston College student Junxue Piao won a competition to redesign the junction of Park Road in June.
The design includes the borough’s three salmon swimming around the roundabout.
Organisers feared the £12,000 price would prevent work being finished before the opening weekend of the Games. They had been seeking donations from businesses, but the Mayor of London’s office approved the grant as part of £636,000 awarded to Kingston from the outer London fund.
The competition was designed to regenerate the area.
