Mourners paid tribute to a teenage boatman who died after falling into the Thames.

Ben Woollacott, the son of Surbiton-based Cruise London boss Stephen Woollacott, was killed on August 3 while working on the Woolwich ferry.

The 19-year-old had got engaged to Jade Humphreys, 18, from Putney, days before the fatal accident.

Woolwich Ferry along with sightseeing river tours by Thames River Services and Crown River Cruises were suspended yesterday so staff could attend Ben’s funeral.

Hundreds of people from the boating community were in attendance at All Hallows by the Tower Church to pay their respects.

Ben, from Swanley, Kent, was in his final year as an apprentice when he was killed.

He is thought to have been hit by propellers after falling while trying to untie mooring ropes.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is leading an inquiry.
