Two former councillors will tonight battle it out with a charity boss to be named Conservative candidate for the Surbiton Hill by-election.
Surbiton Conservatives will pick their candidate tonight at a meeting being held at a member’s house in Surbiton Hill.
Former ward councillors Nick Kilby and Paul Johnston, both ousted at last May’s election, and Britafrique founder Michelle Akintoye are all vying for candidacy. The election was called when councillor Umesh Parekh stepped down after getting a job at Friends of the Earth, which bans staff from holding a council seat.
Anyone who wants to be a candidate must register before August 18, with the by-election taking place on Thursday September 15.
