World class cyclists are peddling through our streets this morning after the Olympic road race test event got under way at 9am.

By the time the first cyclists passed through Twickenham at 9.27am, a leading pack of four had broken away from the rest of the nearly 150 riders, who were five minutes behind.

The cyclists are expected pass through Esher at 11.35am, Hampton Court Palace at 11.40am, Kingston at 11.50am, Richmond Park at 11.55am and Putney at noon, before finishing at the Mall at about 12.10pm.

The event has caused massive transport disruption in south west London and north Surrey, with cars parked along the route being towed away.
