Two bidders have entered the race to run a new primary school in Surbiton, due to open in September 2012.

Controversial plans for a school and new health centre to be built on the Surbiton Hospital site were approved on Thursday, March 4.

The Surbiton Education Health Trust, made up of Kingston Council, NHS Kingston, South West London Health Partnerships and Your Health Care, wants to create a trust school.

Meanwhile, Lilac Sky Schools, an Essex-based firm formed in 2009 that has worked with schools in Essex, Somerset, Manchester and Lewisham, submitted proposals to run a primary academy.

A six-week period for people to submit their views will start on Friday, June 3, with representations sent to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator, which will make the final decision.

Both organisations will present their plans and take questions at a public meeting at Dysart School, Ewell Road, on Tuesday, June 14.

More details of the two bids will appear on the council’s website at kingston.gov.uk/primary_expansion from Friday, June 3.

All comments must be received by Friday, July 15.
