Developers looking to make Surbiton the first place in the UK to use floating technology on a commercial scale have announced dates for a public exhibition.

The exhibitions will give residents the chance to have their say on plans for the controversial Surbiton filter beds site.

Hydro Properties wants to build 60 residential units, a nature reserve, 90-berth marina, residential moorings, restaurant and education centre on the site.

A Hydro Properties spokesman said: "The scheme will improve the environment and ecology of the filter beds, allow local access to the river and around the site, and help the flood defences of Kingston town centre."

The site would act as a flood cell, and the development would rise in times of flooding, to lessen flooding downstream.

The exhibitions will take place on April 14, from 3pm to 8pm, April 15, from 3pm to 8pm, and April 16, from 10am to 1pm, at Surbiton’s Holiday Inn.

They will build on earlier discussions with councillors, residents and groups close to the site, and feedback received at two workshop events.

The exhibition will allow people to view the plans in detail, talk to the project team and leave their comments before a planning application is submitted.
