The Japanese community received a welcome fundraising boost from generous foodies at the latest Surbiton Farmers’ Market.
The Maple Road market on Saturday, March 19, helped raise more than £5,000 in aid of the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.
Surbiton resident Yuki Hoashi organised a raffle and collection, which raised more than £2,200 and her employer Nokia supported the fund to make up the impressive fundraising total.
Rob Parkinson, who arranged for Japanese members of the community to attend, said: “I just wanted to thank everyone involved with the farmers’ market and the businesses on Maple Road for their generosity and help.
“Surbiton has always been a wonderful place to live and the efforts of everyone on Saturday show why."
