Police believe they know the identity of the woman who fell to her death inside the Bentall Centre today.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 2.10pm to reports of a woman falling in the Bentall Centre, Kingston.

"The woman, believed to have been in her 20s, was pronounced dead at 2.22pm.

"We believe we know the woman's identity but await formal identification. Next of kin have yet to be informed."

Police said a postmortem examination would take place in "due course".

A spokesman for the Bentall Centre said the shopping centre was in the hands of police investigators this evening and could not say when it would re-open.

She said: "Staff at the Bentall Centre would like to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

"We will give support to all of our staff and any centre staff that were affected by the incident."
