Armed robbers hit a Tolworth bank this afternoon before making their getaway on a motorbike.

The Flying Squad was sent to investigate and part of Ewell Road was cordoned off by officers.

A police spokesman said: "Two males, both wearing black clothes and helmets, arrived at the scene on a black motorbike.

"One of the males entered the premises and demanded a security guard hand over a cash box he was carrying. Witnesses reported the male was carrying a pistol.

"The suspect took the cash box, left the premises, and then rode away with the other male on the same bike on which they arrived."

London Ambulance Service treated two people at the scene, who declined hospital treatment.

Bertie Jenkins, who was turned away from the Lloyds TSB branch when he went to get cash, said there were police everywhere.

Three armed robbers snatched a cashbox from a security guard outside the same bank on May 13, 2008.

A nearby resident spotted the balaclava-clad men smashing the cashbox with a large sledgehammer, and thousands of pounds of abandoned bank notes covered in dye.
