One of the greatest Hindu festivals starts in Tolworth tonight and is set to be one of the biggest yet.

Navaratri, the nine nights festival, is held at the start of October every year and symbolises the triumph of good over evil.

Following the cancellation of two festivals in Wandsworth and Mitcham, the nine-day event in Tolworth Recreation Centre is set to be extremely popular.

Every evening until Sunday, October 17, members from the Indian community, particularly the Gujarati-speaking people, will gather for folk songs and dancing.

The night will help raise money for Help the Heroes, this year's chosen charity at the Gujarati School, which teaches in Hollyfield School on Friday evenings.

Everybody is welcome, but a nominal fee will be requested to cover costs.
