A taekwondo club that won eight medals at the Taekwondo World Championships in Korea this month, will move to Surbiton in September.

Hogan’s Institute of Taekwondo, which has taught the Korean martial art in Epsom since 2001, came back from Cheongju with a new world champion, Sam Brown.

The 48-year-old won the senior heavyweight individual sparring category, despite a last-minute injury.

Mr Brown said: “I have been dedicating myself to this for the past nine months, to prepare myself for this particular fight.

“All the preparation was going well but unfortunately two days after going to Korea I pulled my hamstring. It was tough but I had to work around my disability. Overall I had a lot of support from all the people.

“I just wanted to do something to keep myself fit and something to keep myself focused. After the second class I was hooked.”

Luke Yip won a silver and two bronze medals and Jessica Ransley and Leanne Evans both won two bronze medals, while Katherine and Emma Stonehouse, Connor McCormack and Pete Yip also represented England.

The club, run by former national champion Jim Hogan, will open at the Spit and Sawdust gym in Ewell Road, Surbiton, in September.
