A Chessington dad who lost his four-month-old son to meningitis, is to run a 10km race to raise vital funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Dominic Morton, of Garrison Lane, will undertake the London 10km road race for the charity on Sunday.

Little Evan Morton died on March 9, after a week-long struggle with pneumococcal meningitis.

Since then, Mr Morton and Evan's mother Lorna Day, have been raising money for the charity, and for Guy's Hospital paediatric unit.

They aim to collect as much money as possible for research into the often-fatal bacteria, as well as raise awareness of the bacterial strain of meningitis, which does not show any visible signs or symptoms, especially in the young.

Mr Morton said: "I chose to run for Meningitis Research Foundation to let people know about meningitis and the devastation it can cause.

"Earlier this year, my four-month-old son contracted the disease and died.

"I hope to run the 10km in under 58minutes and raise at least £500, which will help the foundation in its work."
