From Heather Fraser SIR. Elmbridge Friends of the Earth is disappointed that the Government has decided the planning application for the new Walton Bridge should not be called in.
Our concern that scant consideration was given to the resulting environmental effects, will now not be heard at a public inquiry.
We queried projected traffic levels and challenged the conclusion that air, noise and vibration levels would not be exceeded without a weight restriction.
We also insisted that poor provision for pedestrians and cyclists demonstrated a lack of vision for the future.
In fact, our concerns about the taking of land needed for the link roads is the only aspect still open for discussion.
We hope Surrey County Council will not take this Government decision as carte blanche to steamroll ahead with the plans, but will take note of the real concerns expressed by our group.
