brave oap: An 83-year-old woman chased a 14-year-old boy who tried to steal her handbag on Sunday. She was in Orchard Road, Kingston, at 8pm when the boy grabbed the bag. The two struggled and she fell to the ground, suffering minor grazes. He fled empty- handed but she gave chase, only losing him as he headed into Wheatfield Way. Police applauded her bravery but warned people not to take on would-be thieves.

mass brawl: A 21-year-old man was hit over the head with a bottle during a clash between two rival gangs in Kingston's Eden Street on Friday night at 11.30pm. The 15-man brawl, outside HSBC bank, was split up by police, but nobody was arrested. The man was treated by ambulance staff for a cut on his head.

summer crimes: Police have warned of a spate of sun-related thefts in Kingston. The most recent, at 5pm on Saturday, happened in Queen's Promenade as a 28-year-old Surbiton woman was sunbathing. One man distracted her while another stole her mobile phone. Police said it was similar to around 12 other incidents.

man attacked: An unemployed 63-year-old man suffered a memory blackout after he was strangled with a wire and robbed, at 9pm in Leatherhead Road, Chessington, on Tuesday, April 20. The man remembers nothing after he was grabbed from behind. He awoke the next day with neck injuries and £200 stolen.
