Name and address supplied SIR. I see you have been getting the people of Kingston's opinion regarding the new revamp of the Market Place.

For what it is worth and should our views even be considered, I feel very strongly about this project.

Why make this area a Mediterranean-style feature with outdoor cafs and water features?

This town was granted a charter for holding a market. The Queen visited to mark the event so why not consider our heritage and bring back the market stalls such as they have in Norwich, with their colour and activity.

A farmers' market could be held to bring interest to the town.

Even Tunbridge Wells has retained original buildings and faades but Kingston has lost all its historical sites and buildings do let's try to keep something of the historical past.

I am sure columnist June Sampson would have the same opinion.

Dare I say this £10,000 should be set aside for making the site a real market place instead of a Mediterranean lookalike!

NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED From Marian E Jager SIR. I write regarding the so-called improvements to the Market Place.

I think it looks all right as it is. It just needs a few tubs of brightly coloured flowers here and there. The proposal suggested is too bland.

The idea of a fountain is okay but the one suggested is uninteresting and without meaning.

Now, suppose you had a bowl, into which water could flow from three fishes, it could look quite nice and it would of course have meaning as three fishes are, after all, the emblem of Kingston.
