The Rev Leonard Cowie, lecturer, historian, writer and Anglican priest, died aged 84 in January this year.
Dr Cowie served as a part-time honorary curate for some years at St Mary's Church in Merton Park.
He wrote numerous articles and more than 30 books, both popular and academic in style, including A-level textbooks which are still in use.
He wrote many times about Admiral Lord Nelson, and in recent years produced 17 articles for the new Dictionary of National Biography, which is yet to be published.
Leonard and his wife enjoyed the large garden of their house in Merton Park, where he had served as John Innes Society road representative since the society was founded more than 30 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn.
